At the core of our project is the puck light LiDAR sensor by Velodyne, a cutting-edge tool in spatial mapping and analysis.
Project Overview: The project's primary aim is to map and monitor the tilt and integrity of cemetery monuments. The LiDAR sensor provides us with high-resolution data that is crucial for assessing any shifts or changes over time. Consistently achieving an accuracy range within 1-2 degrees of ground truth data, we ensure reliability in our monitoring processes.
Methodology: Our methodology involves a systematic approach to data collection:
Data Collection: Using the puck light LiDAR sensor, we scan the area to collect comprehensive spatial data.
Analysis: Machine learning is applied to detect and segment each memorial headstone/monument. The data is then processed to evaluate the inclination angle, rotation, and elevation of each memorial.
Monitoring: By establishing a baseline, we can monitor these variables over time to detect any significant changes that may indicate a need for closer inspection.
Why It Matters: This technology allows us to contribute to the preservation of cemetery landscapes responsibly. By identifying monuments at risk, we can assist Gower Consulting in proactively addressing safety concerns, ensuring that these historical sites are maintained for future generations.
